          Pros

          • - Puzzle-to-lock association is clear
          • - Spacious

          Cons

          • - Would've helped to have pen and paper

A group of friends of mine (who don’t have much escape experience) were looking for a fun and easy room to play. So they put me in charge of finding one, as well as the responsibility of ensuring that they escape. Rated as Beginner level, Mayan Curse seemed like a good choice, given the positive experience that I’ve had with Escape Games in the past.

The theming was decent for this room. From the overall décor to the props, it’s evident that much thought went into the design. The puzzles were straightforward and well-suited for beginners. Another reason why this is room is great for beginners is that the puzzle-to-lock association was clear. When you encounter a lock, it’s quite obvious where/how to get the code. There were a couple of puzzles that would have been much less painful with a pen and paper, but they are still solvable without.

While this isn’t one of my top 3 games from Escape Games, I’d say it’s worth a try if you’re new to escape games in general. (And in case you’re wondering, I did accomplish my mission of helping this newbie team escape.)
